Read Luke 24

Scripture- Luke 24:5- In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?

Observation- The women went to a gravesite looking for the dead body of their loved one. They wanted to prepare Jesus’ body for burial. However, when they arrived at the tomb, Jesus’ body wasn’t there. Instead, they saw an angel who said, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?” Jesus was no longer dead, but now alive!

Application- A cemetery can be one of the saddest places. It’s the place where loved ones, who were once alive, now lay to rest in death. I know that one day I will be laid to rest there as well. Yet, what happened in Luke 24 has completely changed a cemetery. That place is no longer my final resting place because Jesus isn’t among the dead but he’s living. Jesus has conquered the grave and he promises to raise me and all Christians back to life. Then we will live forever with him. Jesus’ resurrection drives away my fear and gives me hope even in the face of death.

Prayer- Jesus, thank you for being my Savior and dying for me. Thank you for saving me from death as you conquered the grave that first Easter morning. Drive away my fear and let me live in confidence and hope of the resurrection. Amen.
