Read Colossians 1

Scripture- Colossians 1:12-14- and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Observation- Paul gave the Colossians so many reasons to thank God in this opening section. One of the biggest reasons was that God qualified them for the inheritance of heaven. They disqualified themselves on account of their sin, but God qualified them through his Son, Jesus, and the forgiveness of sins that he won for them. 

Application- I’m no different from the Colossians. I too have disqualified myself from eternal life. From the words that I’ve said, my lack of patience with my family, and the thoughts that I think, I have been disqualified from eternal life. What joy it is to know that God the Father has qualified me through his Son Jesus. He qualified me by disqualifying Jesus. Jesus paid the price of hell that I may have the forgiveness of sins and be brought into his kingdom. I want to live in joyful thanks today. 

Prayer- Father in heaven, thank you for qualifying me for eternal life. You have won me the forgiveness of sins through Jesus and brought me into your eternal kingdom. Fill me with your Holy Spirit that I may be filled with joyful thanks today for the forgiveness you’ve won for me. Amen.
