Read Colossians 3
Scripture- Colossians 3:17- And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Observation- Paul encourages the Colossians that whatever they do, they should do it in the name of Jesus giving thanks to God. Whether they are working, talking to their friends, or relaxing at home, Paul encourages them to give thanks to God in their words and actions.
Application- One of the big questions in life is “what is my purpose?” There are several under-arching purposes in my life. For instance, I have the purpose of being a husband and dad today. I have the purpose of pastoring the congregation. Eventually, those purposes will end at some point in my life. The overarching purpose of my life, however, will not. That purpose is to give thanks to God the Father through Jesus. In my thoughts, words, and deeds, I live to glorify God and give thanks to him for everything he’s done for me.
Prayer- Father, thank you for making my purpose in life clear to me. Whether life is going well, or it’s filled with hurt and heartache, I still have the joy of knowing my purpose is to glorify you and give you thanks. Help me to keep this purpose in mind every day that I may find fulfillment and joy in life. Amen.
