Read 2 Peter 2
Scripture- 2 Peter 2:19- They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity—for “people are slaves to whatever has mastered them.”
Observation- People convince themselves that they are free, but Peter says that whatever has mastered someone has become their master. They are a slave to that thing or person.
Application- I don’t like to be told what to do or feel like I’m controlled. The reality is that I am a slave to whatever has mastered me. Is it food and the constant need for comfort from it? Is it negative thoughts? Whatever I listen to has become my master. That includes Jesus. As a Christian, I’m never totally free. Now, I live and listen to my Savior Jesus. The difference between him and the other masters is that Jesus is filled with grace. He showed the extent of his love by coming and serving me and dying on the cross. He’s a master who truly has my best interest at heart. That makes me want to listen to him today.
Prayer- Jesus, thank you for your love. Send your Spirit into my heart today that I may listen to you and live for you today. Amen
