Dear Church Family,
“Fake news.” I don’t know how long that term has been around. It has certainly become a buzzword in just the last couple years. The proliferation of deliberate misinformation shared on social media has become quite an issue. Who can even calculate its full impact?
Yet the concept of “fake news” has been around a very, very long time. So long in fact that Jesus himself once told a group of people that fake news, in essence, originated with the devil. Jesus said about the devil: “He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44b).
That’s why this Sunday we’re going to look at another dumb thing—another lie—that otherwise smart Christians believe—namely, that the devil isn’t really on the prowl. Pastor Carlos as our guest preacher is going to help us see how that idea that the devil isn’t really on the prowl… is fake news. Yet as always, the truth of God’s Word—the truth that points us to Jesus, will set us free.
So join us this Sunday as we gather as a church family for worship. What a wonderful day it’s going to be as we also install the new teachers who’ve been called to serve at Divine Savior Academy here on our Doral campus. At the end of the service Pastor Carlos will also share a presentation on how Divine Savior Ministries works to expand God’s kingdom in more places.
Worship in English is at 9:30 AM. Spanish is at 11:30 AM. All are invited!
Student Teacher Housing – We have MLC student teachers coming from October 15 until December 21. Please contact Ryan Loberger if you would be willing to host one (or more) of the student teachers during this time.

Help A Sister in Christ – A longtime member of our church family, Cherri Price, is moving to South Carolina to be closer to family. She needs our help getting there. Therefore, this Sunday we’ll have a free will door offering to help cover some of her immediate moving expenses. Thank you for considering how you might be able to help show her Christian love!
Church Member Volunteers – needed to help out at school orientation on Sunday. Looking for some friendly faces to interact with school families and represent our church at our table during DSA orientation. 3-4 people for each time slot would be wonderful! If you’re willing and able to help out please contact Staff Minister Becky. Time slots available: 3:00-4:30 PM / 4:30-6:00 PM / 6:00-7:30 PM / 7:30-9:00 PM.
DS Youth is a ministry of Divine Savior Church that focuses on young people in middle school or high school (grades 6-12). We partner with families and our church to build up young people with God’s Word and Christian relationships. We want the youth to grow as Christian servant leaders in their homes, schools, and communities. Any young people in grade 6-12 are welcome to attend. Our next meeting will be on Friday, 17 August from 6-8:30 PM. If you have any questions please contact Erik Landwehr (786-877-2355;) or Karen Olave.
Student from Zambia – We are excited to welcome Musumenu Kangongo, the daughter of a Zambian Lutheran pastor, to our church family. Musumenu was hoping to be a student here at DSA and throughout the summer, God answered our prayers, and her passport and visa were granted. Several generous donors have stepped forward already to cover the major costs associated with bringing her over. There will be other opportunities down the road for us to show Christian love and cover some of her day-to-day expenses.
