Barriers or Bridges?

Dear Church Family,

There is a car that is legendary in Milwaukee, WI, near where I used to serve. Every city probably has at least one like it. Unfortunately, it’s a car that is legendary for being obnoxious. This car is plastered, every square inch of it, with intentionally provocative, somewhat incoherent slogans (just Google “crazy car guy Milwaukee”). Ron, the driver, drives slowly around town “preaching” through the loudspeaker mounted on top. His car is certainly a driving billboard. But is he effectively getting his message across? Doubtful. He’s certainly not building many bridges.

What do I mean? By building bridges I mean taking the time to establish healthy relationships with people built on mutual trust and respect. In other words, we don’t want to be obnoxious Christians who cause other people to immediately get defensive. We don’t want to unintentionally put up walls between us and the message of the gospel. Yet we don’t want to just hunker down within the walls of the church either. We want to love people enough to meet them where they are at. We believe in building bridges. We’ll see this Sunday that Jesus did too.

What will this practically look like? Please join me for worship this Sunday at 9:30 AM as we talk about this together. And ICYMI watch my message from this past Sunday about our core value we always think of others first. Speaking of others first, please keep in mind that this Sunday the 4th graders from DSA will be singing in church. So if possible, consider parking in the further parking lots so we can make sure our guests have visible, easy parking spots available close to the entrance to church. Thank you!
