Bible Story Book List

Bible Story Book Possibilities

Hi Friends, this Sunday I talked about how to “Be like a Berean.” We want to check for God’s messages eagerly and we want to take God’s truth seriously. At the end of my message I mentioned the joy of reading Bible stories as a family before bedtime. Here is a list of 12 different Bible story books you might want to check out. Each book has strengths and weaknesses. As you grow in faith you will of course also want to read the Bible itself (teaching your kids to do the same) and let that be your filter for everything else you read.

  1. The Jesus Storybook Bible. Ages 4 and up. Helps kids (and parents!) see how every story in the Bible connects to Jesus. Kuerth kids family favorite. A nice size to hold. Interesting pictures. Fresh writing style. Fun to read out loud. Weak on the Lord’s Supper (which you’ll find is true for just about anything not published by CPH or NPH)
  2. Spanish version of The Jesus Storybook Bible. Ages 4 and up. Helps people see how every story in the Bible connects to Jesus…in Spanish! See notes for #1 above.
  3. The Action Bible. Ages 8 and up. Comic book style with incredible artwork by Brazilian artist Sergio Cariello. Includes lots of Bible stories that you don’t always find in a kids’ book. Favorite of my daughter Sophia—probably read it 5 times cover to cover just for fun.
  4. Egermeier’s Bible Storybook. Ages 5 and up. Reprinting of old, traditional classic. Millions of copies sold. Has over 300 Bible stories in it, so very comprehensive. Solid, trustworthy teaching. Oldie but goodie.
  5. 120 Bible Stories. Ages 8 and up. Each story includes discussion questions, a memory verse, and a full-color illustration. Extra features include maps, a time line, and a glossary with explanatory notes on key words and phrases. CPH published.
  6. Jesus Calling Bible Storybook. Ages 4 and up. At the end of each story it has a section where it’s as if Jesus is speaking directly to you. On the one hand this is kind of nice because it helps to personalize the meaning and application to your daily life. On the other hand, take care to understand this isn’t actually Jesus speaking to you. They are simply the book author’s words—so be sure and filter them through what you know is true from the Bible.
  7. The Story Bible. Ages 3-8. Focus on Christ. Has activities and discussion questions. Over 100 stories. Solid Lutheran Bible teaching, published by CPH.
  8. The Beginner’s Bible. Ages 6 and under. Good for really little kids.
  9. My First Bible Storybook. Ages 6 and under. Good for really little kids.
  10. The Story for Little Ones. Ages 6 and under. Large hardcover, simple stories, and easy to show pics to little kids. Useful for holding up so a bunch of kids can see at once.
  11. The Story for Children. Ages 4-8. Beautiful artwork. Large hardcover that is easy to hold up for showing to others. Stunning to look at and enjoyable to read.
  12. The Bible app for Kids. This one’s not actually a book! Available free in Android and Apple app stores. Touch activated animated stories. Easy, kid friendly navigation. Special challenges to let kids earn rewards. Available in multiple languages.
