Safe in Jesus

Dear Church Family,

The students of our Divine Savior Academy here in Doral have been working together this semester to support mission work in the country of Nepal. They’ve been doing this through some creative fundraising activities and through their weekly chapel offerings.

Recently they learned during a special presentation that only 1% of the population in Nepal is Christian. And one of the serious consequences of being a Christian there is that many receive threats from the government or local community authorities. Imprisonment, beatings, intimidation, and harassment are very real threats. The safety of church leaders especially cannot be taken for granted. We should remember to pray for them and all those who suffer persecution for the sake of the gospel.

Yet despite the threats, believers there, our brothers and sisters in Christ, know that when they gather together in church, they are perfectly safe!

How can this be? Well it’s not because their physical safety or financial security is guaranteed (they know it’s not). It’s not because their simple stone churches are built so tough (major earthquakes prove they’re not).
Rather it’s because as they worship together they find their ultimate confidence in Jesus who promises to keep them safe on the day of God’s righteous judgment. Jesus is their mighty fortress who will keep them safe even though “the mountains fall into the heart of the sea” (Psalm 46:2). Jesus is their Savior who, when he comes, will take them (and us!) safely home to heaven.

What will otherwise be a frightening day for unbelievers has become for us who trust in Jesus a day we can eagerly anticipate! Until then, through faith in Jesus Christ, together with our brothers and sisters in Nepal, we find a welcome home in Christ’s church, a place where we are safe.

That’s why I want to invite you to join me this weekend at for worship either this Saturday evening at 5:00 pm or Sunday morning at 9:30 am. All are welcome! Welcome home.
