Words to Calm Storms

Dear Church Family,

We have all witnessed the power of nature—sometimes even up close. And if you’re like me, at times we’ve even found ourselves fearful of its effect. That’s never been more true for me personally than living here in South Florida during hurricane season. But what if there was Someone who could control even wind and wave with the power of his word? And what if he could control not just the storms that stir out there in the oceans, but also calm the storms that threaten the security of our hearts?

Please join me this weekend to see what Scripture reveals to us about Jesus in what I think is one of the most comforting stories from his entire ministry. We’ll discover some words to calm storms.

Saturday at 5:00 pm
Sunday at 9:30 am

ICYMI: Watch or listen to Missionary Andrew Johnston’s excellent message from this past weekend where he helped understand why people were amazed at Jesus.

Open Forum: This Sunday, Jan 26 at 1:30 pm we are having a church open forum in the auditorium. If you call Divine Savior Church your home, please make plans to attend this important open forum about the future of our church.

New Season of Spiritual Growth Opportunities: Here’s a link to a page on our church website from which you can:

1) View a List of Classes and Connect Groups (This list includes both English language and Spanish language options); and…

2) Sign Up for a Class or Connect Group for this Winter session.

All the new English Connect Groups begin next week starting Monday, January 27.

Please sign up for a Bible Class or Connect Group as soon as possible. Remember that some of the Connect Groups do have a cap and may fill up. There is no cap for my Bible study on the Gospel of Mark which I am offering both on Sunday mornings and Wednesday afternoons on campus from 3:00-4:00 pm.

WELS National Leadership Conference: This week I got to spend some time in Chicago along with 800 other leaders from all across our national church body. The keynote presentations, the breakout sessions, the worship opportunities, and the late night conversations with old and new friends alike, were all tremendous. I come home in need of some rejuvenating sleep but super encouraged that in this new decade we can renew our commitment and work together to lead more people to Christ! The keynote talks are going to be made available online. When that happens I will be sure and share with you.

Interactive One-Day Marriage Workshop: If you missed our marriage retreat in the fall, we invite you to participate in our upcoming interactive marriage workshop, Simply Marriage. It’s an opportunity to learn together, laugh together, grow together, and receive the blessings of God’s Word together with your spouse. There will be informative group sessions and alone time with your spouse, to strengthen your marriage. It will take place on our campus on Sat, Feb 22. Click HERE for more details and to save your spot!

WELS Disaster Relief for Puerto Rico: Puerto Rico recently suffered damage from some major earthquakes. Out of love, we would like to combine efforts with our sister churches in our synod across the country to support the people affected in Puerto Rico. Your monetary donations are tax-deductible. We will send our donations directly to our WELS church there and they will distribute the funds to those in need. You can give easily online by CLICKING HERE. Choose GIVE, then DORAL, and Puerto Rico Disaster Relief. There will also be a basket available after worship on the weekends to place cash or a check made out to Divine Savior Church.

Offering Envelopes: If you have selected to give your financial offerings to support our ministry at Divine Savior via check or cash, please pick up your offering  envelopes on the table in the back following the worship service. This includes all our teens who have been confirmed in recent years.

Starting Point Class: Is the first step for anyone who would like to learn more about God, find out what the Bible says, or pursue becoming a member of Divine Savior Church. I would like to start a new Starting Point class on Tuesday evenings beginning Mar 3. If you’re interested in participating in the upcoming March class, or if you have any questions, please send me a quick email.

DSC Welcome Mugs – We want visitors to feel welcome into our church family! One of the ways we can do that is by pastor personally greeting each of the 1st time visitors at worship and offering them a gift. You can help! Be part of our Buy one, GIVE one program! For $7 you will receive your own DSC mug and allow us to give one to a visitor. We hope you enjoy your mug and the opportunity to welcome others! Click here to participate!
