Have you ever received a text that just says, “Can we talk?”
It’s a text that probably makes you nervous. Often a message like that means that there is a tough conversation ahead. A message like that might mean that there’s a difficulty in your relationship with that person that needs to be worked out. It might mean that this person just really needs to talk about something serious and emotional. It means that there will be real, raw emotions and there will be honesty.
As much as we might dread conversations like that, we do need them. Even though those conversations are often taxing and emotionally draining, they are actually good for us. It’s good for us to be honest. It’s good for us to let our emotions out just as they are, without hiding anything.
Do we do that with God? Are we honest with him about how we’re really feeling and about what questions or frustrations we have? Or do we hide those feelings away. Do we feel like we need to work out those emotions first before we can come to God? I think we can all think of some things in the past month that have hit us on a deep emotional level. So what do we do when we are feeling hurt, confused, frustrated, angry, or sad? How do we deal with those emotions as Christians?
This weekend we’re going to start a new sermon series called “Can We Talk?” We will be studying the book of Psalms together, and I’m excited to dive in. The Psalms are a great example of how believers can take their real, raw emotions to God and talk to him about what’s going on. The Psalms are filled with the prayers and the cries and the questions of the believing heart. Through our study, we’ll learn things about God, about ourselves, and about what it means to be a real, emotional Christian.
So let’s talk to God. Let’s go to him with what’s really on our hearts. Join us this weekend, and we’ll see what that looks like together. To watch live online simply click here either on Saturday at 5:00 pm or Sunday at 9:30 am.
