Light Still Shines in the Darkness

Dear Church Family,

“In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit” (Judges 21:25).
Yikes.

And with that our message series on the book of Judges will soon be coming to a close. On the one hand it’s a sad ending. We’ll plunge for just a bit into a rather dark and disturbing place where we’ll see how far God’s people had gone in living life in a way that was right in their eyes… but not in God’s eyes. Everyone was autonomous and that’s the way they liked it. No one was listening to God’s authority anyone. Women and fellow human beings were treated like objects. Sound familiar?

Yet in this utter darkness (a rated R ending) in the last couple chapters of Judges, there is a light still shining: Jesus Christ, the light no darkness can overcome! Even and perhaps especially in the darkest place, the light of grace still shines. And there’s good news for us, “So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace” (Romans 11:5).

DSKids: We had such a great time last weekend as we reopened our DSKids Sunday Morning Program. We began our quest to go back in time to meet Bible heroes and get from them a fantastic verse that they have written in the Bible. If your kids missed this past Sunday, have them check out our opening skit as we went back in time to find David the shepherd boy. Then join us this Sunday to see whom we’ll meet next and what fantastic verse we’ll learn! Simply stop by our DSKids table before you enter to worship and we’ll “check in” your child to join us. See you Sunday!
