Dear Church Family,
Life would never be the same. When the Christian church first began to grow in Thessalonica, it was unlike anything people had ever experienced. The uniquely different gospel message gave them joy. It motivated them to love each other. With deep conviction of faith, they wanted to live lives that pleased the Lord and would win the respect of those outside the church.
But a riot broke out when the missionaries Paul and Silas were accused of “defying Caesar’s decrees, saying that there is another king, one called Jesus” (Acts 17:7). The missionaries narrowly escaped with their lives and had to flee.
Amazingly, the fledgling Christian church didn’t fold. Instead, the believers continued to hold onto God’s Word. Despite trials and challenges they continued to live out their faith in Jesus. The gospel message rang out far and wide as more and more people learned about the growing church in Thessalonica.
Why? Because the Thessalonians had gotten used to the difference Jesus made in their lives. Their lives would never be the same! By the Spirit’s power, as we study 1 Thessalonians over the next four weekends, the same will be true for us. In this series we’ll discover how the same core values that made a difference in Thessalonica, still make all the difference today. Get used to different at Divine Savior Church! The pure gospel of Jesus changes lives!
