Dear Church Family,
If only I had more time. If only I had more rest. Have you ever though this way before? Perhaps in our busy world today we have forgotten the ancient wisdom of Sabbath, rooted in God’s own rhythm of work and rest. “Sabbath” means rest. The gift of Sabbath is essential to our full humanity and faith. Since God knows how much we need Sabbath and how easily we might neglect it, He made it a command. Yet we’ve neglected it anyhow. As a society we’ve forgotten how to experience the rest of God.
This series is designed to help us receive anew the gift of Sabbath—a time of rest and replenishment. Sabbath, truly kept, is delightful. A weekly rhythm that gives us escape from clocks and chores. Sabbath allows us to live more fully as free people, released from the grueling incessant demands of taskmasters. We anticipate, in the sweet shadow of Sabbath, the ultimate rest of God… heaven.
Please join us at church this weekend whether on Saturday at 5:00 pm or Sunday morning at 9:30 am as we begin our new series called The Rest of God!
ICYMI:Here’s a link to last Sunday’s worship service where we celebrated Epiphany and I shared a message based on the story of Philip and the Ethiopian: “We have good news for a new year of God’s grace!”
Revelation Bible Study: Starting next Sunday, January 16, Pastor Caleb Davisson will be teaching a Bible study after church on the book of Revelation. Location: High School Commons. Time: approximately 11:00-11:50 am. All are welcome to attend. Note: I announced last week that we would begin this study this week on Jan 9. However, due to a family funeral Pastor Davisson has asked to begin on Jan 16 instead.
Read God’s Word With Us! This year we will follow a chronological reading plan that offers a fascinating way to read through the entire Bible in one year . . . in only fifteen minutes per day! Gain a better understanding of the order of biblical events and the historical context in which they unfolded. The entire Bible text―books, chapters, and even verses―is arranged in the order the events actually happened using The One Year Chronological Bible. Click here to accept an invite from Pastor Ben to join him and others from our church family in reading through and commenting on the Bible this year using the YouVersion Bible app. The plan starts Tuesday, January 11!
Baptism Sunday is Coming Soon! On Sunday, January 23, we are having a special bilingual service in the High School gym at 10:30 am with a potluck meal to follow. There will be no Saturday evening service that weekend. If you know anyone who might be interested in getting baptized or having their kids baptized during this special service, please let them know! And be sure to share that our church offers baptism for FREE to anyone of any age. All that is required is that they attend one upcoming baptism class with Pastor Ben. I would be happy to talk with anyone who has questions beforehand.
Baptism Class: Are you or someone you know interested in participating in our Baptism Sunday? Join Pastor Ben to learn what the Bible teaches about baptism at an information class on Saturday, January 15 at 10:00 am. Childcare provided as needed. Click here to register for the class. Attending this class does not obligate anyone to be baptized.
Pastor Vacancy in West Palm Beach: Pastor John Boggs from our DSC-West Palm Beach campus recently accepted a call to be a professor at Luther Prep School in Wisconsin. Pastor Nate Scharf who is currently serving at St. Paul’s in New Ulm, MN is holding the call to be the next pastor at DSC-WPB. Please keep him and his family in your prayers as he deliberates. Until our WPB campus gets a new pastor, I (Pastor Ben) will be coordinating how we here in Doral can help fill the vacancy and cover their ministry needs. Please also keep this in your prayers as it will take a team effort of time, energy, and flexibility on the part of many. Pastor Boggs’ last Sunday in WPB will be January 23rd.
