Dear Church Family,
“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy” (Ex. 20:8). This is the third commandment.
But why?
According to Exodus chapter 20 the rationale is creation. According to Deuteronomy chapter 5 the rationale is liberation. “Remember that you were slaves…” (Dt. 5:15)
Friends, God doesn’t want us to be slaves! He wants to remove the taskmasters—even the ones in our own minds. He wants to set us free.
“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36)!
Don’t you want too to be free?
Please join me this weekend whether on Saturday at 5:00 pm or at Sunday 9:30 as we conclude our series on The Rest of God with the grand finale: “Stopping to Remove the Taskmasters.”
ICYMI: Watch Pastor Caleb’s message from last weekend on “Stopping to Number Our Days Aright.”
Revelation Bible Study: Pastor Caleb Davisson’s Bible study on Revelation continues this Sunday from 11:00-11:50 am in the high school commons. All are welcome—teens and adults alike! Just come on over. Newcomers welcome.
Supporting the Kurbis Family: Please pray for the Kurbis Family. Phil and Shanna Kurbis, along with their two children, Gavin and Maelyn, have been a part of our Divine Savior Church Family for over seven years. As you may know, Shanna received the difficult news of a cancer diagnosis in December. Shanna is currently receiving treatments in Minnesota where her mother and father can help her and the two kids, while Phil continues to travel back and forth to Miami for work and treatments. While the Kurbis family has not asked for anything more than our prayers, we are asking our church family to support them during this challenging time. Please consider making a donation that will be put toward various restaurant and grocery store gift cards to help alleviate their daily expenses. We also ask that you keep this young family in your prayers during this time and ask for God’s healing hand to restore Shanna to full health soon. We are going to be setting up a “Kurbis Family Help” fund to designate your gift via our online giving portal or you can bring or send a check to church with the memo “Kurbis Family Help.”
DSYouth: Today, Friday, February 4 from 6:00-8:30 pm, all students in middle or high school (beginning with grade 6 through 12th grade) are welcome to join us for DSYouth! Serving on the DSC Ambassador Team: There are 2 opportunities to represent Divine Savior Church at upcoming school events: Touch a Truck on February 5 and Family Fest on February 12. It is a blessing to have a presence at these events to help bring awareness of our church to the local community and DSA school families who participate. We offer information at a DSC table and look to have great conversations with parents to both welcome them and invite them to check out our church. Staff Minister Becky will have a free DSC shirt for you. Are you willing to serve? Please contact Becky.
Read the Bible in 2022. Click here to accept an invite from Pastor Ben to join him and others from our church family in reading through and commenting on the Bible this year using the YouVersion Bible app. The plan started January 11 but you are still welcome to jump in and join us any time wherever we are at. We’re just about through Genesis and will soon be starting Exodus.
