Dear Church Family,
The next couple weekends during this season of Lent we will reflect on all the ways the people in Jesus’ time wanted the Messiah to be very different than who Jesus was. And still today, we sometimes desire that the central figure of our faith isn’t like Jesus. We want a conquering hero arriving with his armies of angels. Instead, we find a willing suffering servant. This is what Paul called the foolishness of the cross. But the Bible makes it clear that the Jesus we get is far greater than we could have ever designed. He meets all our greatest needs, from forgiveness, to eternal life, to peace in the midst of trials. He is The Jesus We Need.
Join me for worship this weekend here in Doral whether at 5:00 pm on Saturday or 9:30 am on Sunday as we begin this new series with week one: Someone to Resist Temptation.
ICYMI: Watch my message from last Sunday on A Life of Generosity.
Congregational Meeting – We had a solid turnout of about 80 who attended our important congregational meeting last Sunday where we presented our church’s ten-year strategic plan (VTO) and a proposal to proceed with building our new worship and ministry center. Thank you to all who attended! Thank you also to those of you who have already expressed your eagerness and desire to commit to some of the “levers” that were presented to help us get it done. Stay tuned for further communication from our church council regarding next steps. Our next council meeting is this coming Monday evening.
March Parent Page – Printed copies of this month’s CPYU Parent Page are available on the info table at church. Parents of teens are encouraged to pick one up.
Meditations – Copies of this daily devotional are available free of charge on the info table at church.
Supporting the Kurbis Family: Your prayers and gifts are appreciated to help the Kurbis family during this difficult time as Shanna battles cancer. All donations designated for “Kurbis Family Help” will be put toward various restaurant and grocery store gift cards to help alleviate their daily expenses. Give via our online giving portal or bring a check to church with the memo “Kurbis Family Help.”
DSYouth: Today, Friday, March 4 from 6:00-8:30 pm, all students in middle or high school (beginning with grade 6 through 12th grade) are welcome to join us for DSYouth! Enjoy Bible study, fun, make new friends, and find out about service opportunities. Meet in the highschool commons. Parents, if you have a child participating for the 1st time ever in DSYouth, please fill out the parent consent and student registration. Click here for English.
Connect Groups: Which group will you choose to join? Our next session begins next week! Click to see all of the options under Connect Groups on the home page of the Divine Savior Church app. Click the “join group” button to reserve your spot now! Get to know others in your church family and grow spiritually together. There are 3 groups for anyone to join and 3 designed specifically for women! These small groups meet once a week for 5-7 weeks to discuss questions together based on the Biblical text of the weekly sermon message, share how it applies to life, and pray together. Have questions? Please contact Staff Minister Becky
Upcoming Lent Opportunities: Each Wednesday morning between now and Holy Week (for the next five weeks) we will share a resource with you. It will be a link to a 15 minute Lenten video devotion (YouTube). We pray you use this resource within your home with your family to worship together and discuss the questions/applications and to make it simple for you to invite a friend(s) or extended family member(s) to share this special time together. We want to equip you to “be the church within your home and within your little community,” meaning anyone with whom you have a connection. Make it personal. Build relationships. Share your faith. See Pastor Ben’s email for more details.
Serving Opportunity: We want to provide a welcoming online experience for those choosing to join us for worship online on Sunday mornings. This may be people “checking out” our church for the first time or our members who might be traveling/ ill. Whatever the case, our goal is to interact/engage with the viewers and make them feel welcome by our church family. Our goal is to have a volunteer to cover each live streamed service; right now we do not. We have an immediate need for volunteers to serve. There is very simple training. You would have the option of serving once a month or more if you like. You can easily serve as Online Host even if you attend the service in person. If you have any questions or are interested in serving in this way, please contact Staff Minister Becky.
Download Our Church App – Use it to worship online, watch archived messages, and register for events and classes that are coming up. Search “Divine Savior Church” in your app store. Select “Doral” as your campus.
DSC on YouTube: Watch past messages and worship services on-demand on our church YouTube channel.
Giving: To give simply follow this link to go to our secure giving page, or click Give at the bottom of the church app. You can make one-time special gifts or set up recurring gifts as well. Thank you for keeping in mind that setting up your regular giving via ACH vs credit card saves our church over 2% in additional fees.
